The transition from hospital to the home care environment requires careful planning, involving health professionals, caregivers and family members. It includes defining the type of nutritional support needed, training caregivers, acquiring supplies and ongoing monitoring to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.

Some complications can arise in nutrition home care, such as obstruction of the feeding tube, infections, electrolyte imbalances, among others. It is essential that caregivers and family members are aware of these complications and know how to act in the event of an emergency.

Although ENT is a valuable option for many patients, there are situations in which it is not indicated, such as in the case of patients who require intensive monitoring, who do not have adequate support at home or who do not have stable enough health conditions to receive care at home. This assessment should be carried out by the hospital's multidisciplinary team before the patient is discharged.
